Some inspirational pictures:
I made this:
The top is doubled, made of light viscose jersey. At first I made a mistake of sewing the side seams together and then I read German instructions (and typed them in Google translator to be more sure) and realized that I should sew the neckline and armholes first. Sooo *#?$*, I unpicked the side seams and did just that. And after that is done, you just sew the side seams together, you lie them flat and you do a long side seam.
I bought the fabric for the top here: (an on-line Slovenian shop): https://www.liupka.com/Metrsko-blago/Jersey/Viskozni-jersey It was priobably around 6 or 7 EUR (?).
I used my brother coverstitch CV 3550. I did a thin decorative stitch with blue metallic thread around the neckline and just some white one around the armholes.
I used zebra chiffon for the skirt (100% poliester) and a lining of course. It's not a fast sew but it's not too difficult. I didn't do any other adjustments except the length of the top and skirt. I shortened the top for 10 cm. I'm short so I have to adjust that otherwise my torso would look too long and my legs too short. I think the top is great, it's great to double it so even though it's white (ecru, actually) you can't see a black bra underneath. So, again, the fit of the top is great but I'm not sure about the length I made. At first I thought that It's great for my height but it kind of sits on my belly and it looks horrible in the pictures. I need to lose weight fast. Oh, I actually made the bottom part for the skirt differently than suggested in Burda magazine. I made it less wide, it's made of 1 rectangle (not 2), I took the width of the fabric for my skirt and that's it, I adjusted the length. I made a seam in the back center (not on the sides). I have some fabric left for a bolero jacket, I guess.
I made a strange band on the skirt bottom because it seemed too short for me. The fabric for the skirt was bought here, on-line: (a Croatian shop) https://mattex.hr/ I don't remember the exact price, perhaps it was 7 EUR a meter (?) or maybe just 5. I'm not sure.
It's a great summer dress, a blend of two different fabrics - the stretchy one and a non-stretchy one - a flowy one. When you know what you are doing it can be done fast. I will make a USEFUL post on my coverstitch (brother CV 3550) because it can be difficult or great, it depends.
